We only recommend products we believe in. This page explains how we choose what to review, how we test, and how we reach a verdict, so you can judge how much weight to give our recommendations.
How we choose what to review
We focus on the products that matter most for sleeping and living with back pain, neck pain, occipital neuralgia and tension headaches: pillows, mattresses and toppers, supports, and massagers. We prioritise the things people with these conditions actually search for and struggle to choose between, not whatever pays the highest commission.
How we test
Wherever possible we test products the only way that counts for chronic pain: by living with them. That means using a pillow or support night after night over weeks and months, through good spells and flare-ups, rather than forming an opinion after a single try. The product we recommend most has been our daily pillow for more than twenty years.
What we judge a product on
- Support and alignment. Does it keep the head, neck and spine in a neutral position through the night?
- Suitability by condition and sleep position. Who it genuinely helps, and who should avoid it.
- Comfort over time. How it feels after weeks of use, not just the first night.
- Materials and durability. Whether it holds its shape and lasts.
- Value. Whether the result justifies the price.
How our ratings work
A recommendation reflects the balance of those factors for a specific type of person, not a single score in isolation. We will tell you when a product is the right choice for side sleepers but wrong for back sleepers, or worth it for severe pain but overkill for the occasional ache. Our aim is to help you pick the right product for you, not to crown a single winner for everyone.
When we have not tested something ourselves
If we have not personally used a product, we say so clearly and explain what our assessment is based on, such as materials, design and credible owner feedback. We never imply hands-on experience we do not have.
Affiliate links do not buy a good review
Some links are affiliate links and we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This never influences our verdict. If the best option for you is cheaper, or is something we earn nothing from, that is what we will tell you. See our Affiliate Disclosure for details.
